Well, either you're going to enjoy crafting or not.  But much has changed in the history of Everquest II Tradeskilling and it will likely keep evolving either for the better or for the worst.  Recipes and harvesting are simpler, crafting class interdependency eliminated and you are no longer limited to being either an adventurer or an artisan throughout the game.  And like adventuring, it'll be easy to level at first but will take longer with each proceeding level.  Be warned though, there are some quests within the game that do require at least having a level 9 tradeskill ability even if you're just an ordinary adventurer.

There are a total of nine primary tradeskills for which you can only choose one to progress with and there are also four supplementary tradeskills you can explore if you want.  You don't need to take up a primary tradeskill in order to use any or all of the supplementary tradeskills that are available.  Should you later decide you don't like the primary tradeskill you've chosen, you do have the ability to change your tradeskill; but do this sooner than later.  All crafters begin as an Artisan.  When maxed out at level 9, you'll get a message for you to talk to a Crafting Trainer who will guide you in choosing your subclass; either craftsman, outfitter or scholar.  At level 19 when maxed out, you'll receive another message to revisit your Crafting Trainer to select your specific tradeskill profession.
